CATHERINE JOHNSTON
Catherine Caroline Johnson [sic], 91, residing at LaBelle Manor in LaBelle, MO former resident of Newark, MO, passed away Monday, November 25 [sic], 2003.
Catherine was born October 8, 1912, in Shelby County, MO, near the small town of Kirby. She was the daughter of Maut and Blanche (Tarbet) Bilyeu.
Catherine attended Leonard and Shelbyville High Schools; she graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1930. Catherine was a great athlete, excelling in basketball.
She married O.M. Johnston II (Junior) January 30, 1932, and they celebrated their 50 wedding anniversary in 1962. Junior preceded her in death on August 4, 1991. Catherine and Junior spent their entire life together fanning in Newark, MO. Catherine also taught at the Enterprise, Nelson and Fruit Hill Rural Schools. Catherine was a Sunday School Teacher and member for many years at the Newark Christian Church. Junior and Catherine maintained the perpetual care for the Newark Cemetery since 1947.
Survivors include a daughter Connie Davis and her husband Jerry of Petersburg. IL, and a son O. M. Johnston III (Mackie) and his wife Evelyn of Newark, MO. Four grandchildren, Paula Davis and her husband Gerry Faw of Makanda, IL, Serge Davis of Peterburg, IL, Marianne and her husband Jim Meyer of Lebanon, MO, and Lori Lee Johnston of Gardner, KS. Three greatgrandchildren Shanda Haun, Bailey Davis and Holly Davis. One sister Beverly Decker and her husband Virgil of Shelbina, MO, and one brother Ed Bilyeu and his wife Melba of St Charles, MO. She also has numerous nieces and nephews.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents Maut and Blanche Bilyeu; siblings; Pansa Pendleton, Faye Mann, Dottie LaFevre, Clyde Bilyer [sic], Montie Williams.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at her Christian Church in Newark, MO. Burial was in the Newark Cemetery in Newark, MO.
Visitation was held Tuesday, November 25, 2003, after 4:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Coder Funeral Chapel, LaBelle, MO.
An expression of sympathy in memory of Catherine Johnston may he made to the Newark Cemetery Association. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Coder Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 151, LaBelle, MO 63447.
