Gilmore was married twice - first to (unknown), divorced before 1945; and second to Alta Pearl (Stainbrook) Montgomery in July 1945. Gilmore and his first wife had two children prior to 1945. Gilmore and his second wife, Alta had four children in the period 1947 to 1956, three boys (living) and one girl, Marlene Kay Helgeland (1956-2013).

Gilmore resided in Mason City most of his adult life, where he worked as an accomplished master carpenter, building houses and other buildings.

Upon his death, Gilmore was cremated and an inurnment took place over the casket of his deceased wife, Alta. Therefore, his location at the cemetery is the same as that of his second wife. A separate grave marker for Gilmore was emplaced adjacent to Alta's which is depicted in Findagrave # 118769183.

Gilmore is survived by one daughter in California and three sons in Iowa.

GIL HELGELAND

MASON CITY -- Gilmore A. "Gil" Helgeland, 70, of 825 6th SW, died Saturday (June 19, 1982) at a Mason City hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. LaVern Hanson officiating. There will be no visitation or burial. The body has been donated to the University of Iowa.

Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Helgeland was born June 14, 1912 in Brookfield Township, Worth County, and attended country school in Worth County. He married Alta Stainbrook in 1946 in Mason City. They moved to Mason City in 1947. Following Alta's death, he married Stella Dash on Feb. 2, 1974 in New Providence.

He worked as a carpenter for George Platts Construction Company, Henkel Construction Company and Davey & Moen Inc. He was a member of the Carpenters Local Union 1313.

He is survived by his wife, Stella; his mother, Emma Olson and his stepfather, James Olson, both of Manly; two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Nelva) McLaughlin, Sunnyvale, Calif., and *Marlene K. Helgeland, Grinnell; three sons, G. Lyle Helgeland and Dennis K. Helgeland, Sr., both of Mason City, and Gordon D. Helgeland, Kansas City, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. LaVerne (Joyce) Essick, San Antonio, Texas, and Mrs. Gail Hutcell, Iowa Falls; two stepsons, Neil Nohernberg, Popejoy, and Keith Nohernberg, Iowa Falls; seven grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Don (June) Quinlan, Mason City; and a brother, Selmer Helgeland, Manly.
