Mrs. Helen Bernhard, age 88, of Kerrville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, in a Fredericksburg hospital. Mrs. Bernhard, a resident of Kerrville since 1927 and a prior resident of Fredericksburg, was born on Oct. 15, 1909 in Fredericksburg, to Fritz Joseph and Anna Eckert Joseph. Mrs. Bernhard was a homemaker and former owner of Bernhard Lockers, Inc. in Ingram, established in 1953. She married Earl Bernhard in Kerrville, on Sept.12, 1927. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1971. Mrs. Bernhard was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kerrville and the Woodmen of the World.
Survivors are her sons, Harold E. Bernhard of Sunrise Beach, Texas, Fred S. Bernhard of Austin, Texas, and John A. Bernhard of Boerne, Texas; sisters, Edna Johnson of Austin, Elenora Kein, Alice Mae Knipper and Vernell Roeder, all of Fredericksburg; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Dora Joseph and two brothers, Henry Joseph and Ruben Joseph.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, with Dr. Warren Hornung officiating. Interment will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Pallbearers are Carlton Bernhard, Earl Bernhard, Carvel Bernhard, Ray Coons, Matt Coons and Kevin Bernhard.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the charity of one's choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
