Eugene L. Hayes, 86, lifetime Kittitas Valley resident, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003 at Kittitas Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Ellensburg.

He was born in Kittitas County on June 4, 1917, one of seven children of Clarence and Leza (Blair) Hayes. He and Nina Helland were married on December 7, 1942. He worked for Jack Sorenson before hauling hay for Anderson Hay and Grain and De-Hi pellets for Western Feed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina; his parents, Clarence and Leza Hayes; stepmother, Alma Hayes; sister, Una Wiltgren; and brothers, Lewis, Les, and Richard Hayes.

Survivors include two daughters: Charlotte (Eli) Custino of Foster City, Calif., and Martha Hayes of Ellensburg; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Dr. Derrick (Carrie) Custino and Mia of Oregon, Aaron (Kellie) Custino, Bella and Alyssa of California, Heather (Steve) McLaughin and Ryan of California and Tressa Hayes of Ellensburg; two sisters, Dorothy Roletto of Ronald and Ruth Miller of Reno, Nev.; and two half-sisters, Alena Davis and Roberta of Yakima.

Memorial services will be at a later date. Cremation arrangements by Affordable Funeral Care.
