Daryl W. Powell,77, of Republic, died Thursday evening, Dec. 5, 2013, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

He was born Nov. 6, 1936, in Republic, to Wayne A. and Thelma E. (Sherer) Powell. He married Laura Neikirk Nov. 4, 1966, in Bloomville, and she preceded him in death April 2, 2009.

Survivors include a brother, John (Connie) Powell of Republic; two sisters, Edith (George) Hemminger of Republic and Sandra Sparks of Perrysburg; two stepsons, Robert (Valarie) Benfer of Willard and Dan (Donna) Benfer of Republic; a stepdaughter, Toni Starling of Ravenna; 12 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; six nephews, Adam Powell of Tiffin, Ryan Powell of Baltimore, Md., Eric Powell of Republic, Brian Sparks of Lewis Center, Kent Hemminger of Apple Valley, Minn., and Brent Hemminger of Tiffin.

Daryl was a lifelong farmer, retiring from Powell Farms in 2002. He was a 1955 graduate of Scipio-Republic High School, a member of the Republic Lions Club and a Melvin Jones recipient, a member of The Safari Club International Lima Chapter, a member of Seneca Lodge No. 790 F&AM Republic, Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, Zenobia Shrine and Tiffin Shrine Club, a U.S. Army veteran serving during 1955-1975 and an avid hunter and fisherman, which included trips to Venezuela, the Amazon and the Arctic Circle.

His funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR. 19 Bloomville, with Pastor Darla Metz officiating. Burial will follow at Farewell Retreat Cemetery, Republic. Wade Benfer American Legion Post No. 404 Republic will conduct military graveside services.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Republic Lions Club.
