Lucile Fay Steadman Whitney (ninety-six years of age) passed away on December 5, 2013.

She was born at home in West Jordan, Utah on May 20, 1917 to Charles Edwin and Edith Price Steadman and was the third of nine daughters.

Lucile attended school in West Jordan and graduated from Jordan High School. She graduated from McKissick Cosmetology School and worked in her sister Ivy's beauty salon in Midvale until her marriage to Lavon Whitney in the Hawaiian Temple in 1939. Their first son, Charles, was born in Hawaii.

Returning later to Utah, Lavon designed and built their beautiful home in Holladay where they lived for twenty-one years and raised their children, which brought her great joy and happiness.

Lucile was an active member of the LDS Church and held positions of leadership at the ward and stake levels. She spent many years researching genealogy, and volunteered for seventeen years in the clothing department at the Salt Lake Temple.

A great thrill for Lucile was working at the University of Utah for twenty-four years in the concession and commissary stands, where she became friends with many UTE fans.

She was preceded in death by her husband, daughters, Twila Lee Whitney and Barbara Whitney Shurtz; son, Brent Whitney; and by seven of her sisters. Three of Lucile's children predeceased her causing great sorrow. Lucile is survived by sons, Charles Whitney (Susan) and Larry Whitney (Shonnie); son-in-law, Carlyle Shurtz (Joyce); daughter-in-law, Margaret Whitney; sister, Delores (Joy) Hedin; and thirteen grandchildren plus twenty great-grandchildren.

A remarkable lady and we wish her well in her new life!
