She was born November 7, 1936 to George Elbert Nelson and Velma M. Worthen Nelson in Ferron, Utah. She later moved to the Ogden, Utah area, where she graduated from high school.
She attended BYU, where she met "the light of her life" Bill Matthews. They were married om January 4, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple. Bill departed this life on March 23, 2013 and has been strongly missed by us all
She was an active member of the LDS Church, where she held various positions in the Cub Scouts, Primary, and Relief Society. She enjoyed quilting, doing stain glass art, tole painting, and spending time with her family. She really enjoyed the many outings to Redfish Lake in Idaho with her family.
She is survived by her children: Calene (Darrell) Cook, Joe (Jo) Matthews, Stewart (Lauri) Matthews, and DeAnn Matthews; her six grandchildren and five wonderful great-grandchildren; sister, Athleen (Ken) Cravens; brother, Lincoln (Shirlee) Nelson; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Nelson and Kathryn Nelson. She is preceded in death by her eternal sweetheart, Bill; parents; sister, Ellen Mamanakis; brothers, Richard and Dale Nelson; and brother-in-law, George Mamanakis.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Elk Run Chapel, 3610 South 8400 West. Viewings will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road (1700 West), and prior to the services at the church on Thursday from 10:00-10:45 a.m.
Interment: Herriman City Cemetery.
