US Congressman. Born in North Norwich, New York, he studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law at Sherburne, New York, in 1819. Moving to Norwich, New York, in 1827, he continued the practice of law, was appointed judge of the court of common pleas and surrogate of Chenango County, in 1833, serving until his resignation in 1837. In 1843, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-eighth Congress, serving until 1845. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and was elected again judge and surrogate of Chenango County, serving (1847-51). He died at age 73 in Norwich, New York.
