U.S. Congressman. Noted as a complete gentleman, he and a close friend of Ronald Reagan, with whom he helped, define California State politics. He attended Occidental College, (1947-48), graduating Stanford University, 1951 and served an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves (1951-54). He was director of the Hoffman Hardware Company, Los Angeles, (1952-69), served in California State Assembly, (1963-76) and a delegate to California State Republican conventions, (1962-76). In 1977, he was elected as a Republican to the Ninety-fifth Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1989. After leaving office, he served on the Californian State Board of Accountancy. He died of a heart attack at age 76.
