RITES THURSDAY FOR MINSTER BUSINESSMAN

Henry J. Fortman, a lifetime resident of Minster and a businessman here many years, died as he slept Sunday night in the home of his nephew, Walter Hausfeld, 232 N. Cleveland Street, with whom he had lived since 1926.

Death is believed to have occurred at about 9 p.m., from a heart attack. He was found, fully clothed and reclining on his bed, at 11:30 p.m. Mr. Fortman would have observed his 76th birthday next week Tuesday.

He was born here Nov 13, 1886, the son of John and Caroline (Frilling) Fortman, and was the last of his family having been preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Fortman, along with the late Dr. E.F. Westerheide and the late Ben Kuhlman, founded the Minster Oil Company, wholesaler and jobber of petroleum and associated products, in 1924.

Prior to this he had operated a harness shop for a number of years, and he continued that business until 1927 when he became identified with the oil company full time. His affiliation with the firm continued until his death, although in later years, he had been semi-retired. The business was operated as a partnership of Mr. Fortman, Mr. Hausfeld, and Leo Aselage.

Mr. Fortman was a member of St. Augustine's church and the St. Augustine Orphan Society, and was a member of the Eagle's Lodge.

Solemn Requiem High Mass will be sung in the church at 9 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. William Meyer as celebrant, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home until time of services.
