James E. Hanson, 78, of DuBois, formerly of Marienville, Pa., died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at DuBois Nursing Home.

He was born Sept. 10, 1935, in DuBois, the son of Charles and Alta Hanson.

On Dec. 2, 1956, he married the former Sandra Anderson, who preceded him in death in 2004.

Mr. Hanson worked as a PBX repairman for what was Bell Telephone, AT&T and is now Lucent Technology. He was a former small businessman in Marienville dealing in Maytag appliances.

He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting snowshoe rabbit and running dogs.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves.

Jim was a member of the Fraternal Order of Masons; Coudersport Consistory, Zem Zem Shriners International; the Marienville United Methodist Church; Forest County Veteran's Club in Marienville; and the Marienville Senior Center.

He was former president of the Marienville Medical Center; former leader of the Boy Scouts; member of the Beartown Beagle Club; formerly active in the Marienville Fire Company; a former deputy Game Protector; and a member of the Retired Bell Telephone Workers.

Surviving are three children: a daughter, Robin Scull and husband Steven of DuBois; and two sons, Brad Hanson and wife Sally Jo of Lower Burrell, and Brian Hanson of Marienville.

Additional survivors include Jim's companion, Judy Gallaher of Coal Port, as well as three grandchildren: Nicholas Scull of Statesboro, Ga., Zachery Scull of Greensburg, Pa., and Alicia Sites of Newmarket,
N.H.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Morrison.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at the Ronald McDonald Funeral Home in Marienville, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at the funeral home, with Rev. Daniel Richter, pastor of the Marienville United Methodist Church, presiding.

Private interment will take place at Morning Side Cemetery in DuBois.

Memorials in Jim's name may be made to the Marienville United Methodist Church or to the Marienville Medical Center.
