Ruth Ann McCreary Alkire, 49, a former Lafayette resident, died at 10:15 PM Friday [May 5, 1978] at Martinsville, VA, following a several-month illness. Born at Elwood, she was a graduate of Wendell Willkie High School, and had lived here a number of years before moving to Virginia in 1973. She married Charles Wesley Alkire on May 18, 1951; he survives.
Mrs. Alkire was a member of Forest Hill Presbyterian Church, Martinsville Newcomers Club, Christian Women's Club, Order of Eastern Star, and was a former member of Dayton Chapter 233, Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving with her husband are a son, Jerry W. Alkire of Lafayette; three daughters, JoAnn (Mrs. Dennis) Abbott of Lafayette, Cheryl G. Alkire, and Lisa K. Alkire, both at home; and four sisters, Mrs. Mildred Tice of Muncie, Mrs. Lorene Harting, Mrs. Helen HIgh, both of Elwood, and Mrs. Martha Morris of Anderson.
