Services for former Willamina Municipal Judge William A. "Bill" Jolley of Keizer will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Adamson's Sheridan Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Willamette Lutheran Home Chapel, Keizer.
He died Oct. 29, 2001, in his home. He was 83.
Mr. Jolley retired in late 2000 after 15 years as Willamina Municipal judge.
He was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Twin Falls, Idaho, and raised on a farm. He served in the Navy from 1935 to 1941 and the Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945.
He and Cleo Ann Briles were married April 20, 1942.
He worked as a heating, air conditioning and refrigeration contractor for many years in Idaho, Nevada, California and Oregon. He moved to a farm near Willamina in 1961.
Mr. Jolley studied law for two years, completed 400 hours of study at the National Judicial College at the University of Nevada, Reno, and also completed the Judicial Institute course for judges.
He belonged to the American Bar Association and served on the board of the Oregon Municipal Judges Association. He was editor emeritus of "Bench Notes," the official quarterly publication of the Oregon Municipal Judges and Justices of the Peace.
In 1987, he was awarded the Judicial Career Education Achievement Award by the National Judges Association and the National Judicial College. He performed more than 50 weddings during his tenure as a judge.
He was named Willamina's First Citizen by the West Valley Chamber of Commerce in 1987. He was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 1283, McMinnville.
He ran for the Republican nomination for U.S. representative, Congressional District 1, in 1988 and for Oregon House District 3 in 1990.
Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Whitaker of Salem, Ginger Dunn of Junction City, Leilani Norwood of Naches, Wash., and Jeanne Ramer of Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
