JOHN H. STANNARD
SOUTH DORSET - John H. Stannard, 67, who had conducted his own plumbing business in South Dorset since 1929 and who over the years had served the town in many capacities, died unexpectedly Thursday night at Rutland City Hospital, where he was taken by ambulance earlier this week.
Mr. Stannard had been in declining health for several months. He had been a lifelong resident of Manchester and Dorset and had been located in Dorset since 1928. Born in South Dorset March 9, 1900, he was the son of Fred and Josephine (Stone) Stannard. Before establishing his own business, he had served 10 years with the plumbing concern of Howard & Horton in Manchester.
His education had been received in Dorset and Manchester, where he had attended Burr & Burton Seminary, he was a member of the Dorset United Congregational Church.
Survivors are his wife, the former Lucy Norton; one daughter, Mrs. Peter (Charlotte) Brooks of South Dorset, four sons, John of Dorset, James of South Dorset, Raymond of Norwalk, Conn. and Richard of Dorset; nine grandchildren; one sister, Rachel Rossi of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., one brother, Charles of Manchester Depot.
Funeral services will be Sunday at the Dorset Congregational Church with the Rev. William Corum officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call at his residence in South Dorset after 1 pm Saturday.
