Carolyn Elkins Mercer died at 7:20pm on Thursday, January 6, 2000 in the Hospice of Ft. Myers, Florida after a battle with cancer. She was in a coma for a couple of weeks prior to her death. She moved to Ft. Myers, Fl in 1974. She had retired from the Lee County Sheriff's Department where she worked as a Deputy Sheriff. She enjoyed flying, scuba diving, playing cards, and spending time with her family. She was the daughter of Walter Elswarth and Caroline Dupree Elkins. She is survived by her husband, Calvin Leonard Mercer; three daughters, Marie Wilson (John), Debra Goldforth, and Linda Spears (Michael); a brother, Ralph Elkins (Bernice), and grandchildren & great grandchildren. Although Carolyn has a grave marker in this cemetery, her body is not interred here. Her remains were cremated at Peace Cremations of Sarasota, Florida on January 9, 2000.
