William Jefferson "Jeff" McColgan moved from Hamilton, IL to Woodward, OK, then Purcell, Ok where he married Jamima Lou Daniel. He participated in the Oklahoma Land Run in 1891, and platted the town of Jefferson, OK, near Asher, on his homestead. Jeff was shown as proprietor, with W T Perkins shown as Notary and R R Bertrand as Surveyor. Around 1900, he was a Deputy Sheriff, and later, Sheriff of Wanette, OK. He and his brother, Charlie, owned a store with a millinery shop in Wanette.
