Lou Burge Newman was born about 1874 in Texas, USA to Leonidas Titus (L. T.) & Olivia Green Burge. Her family had relocated from Mississippi to Texas sometime between 1865 and 1870.

Lou's siblings this researcher has found, to-date, were:

=======================================================
- Delbert Burge (1870 - ?)

- Isadora Burge (1872 - ?)

- Earlie Pelman Burge (1877 - 1963)

- Olivia Burge (1879 - ?)
=======================================================

Lou met & married Thomas Wiley Newman about 1890 in Texas, USA. They had a son named James Leon Newman (my Grandfather).

Family stories relay Lou & Tom moved to "Indian Territory", where Lou got pregnant with twins. She and Tom separated from one another, and Tom returned home to live with his family.

Apparently, Lou passed-away in childbirth with the twins, leaving my Grandfather, James Leon (Lonnie or Lon) Newman, as the only surviving child of this union.

Tom retrieved his son to come live with him and his new wife, Rebekah Josephine (Josie) Wier Newman. Tom & Josie had twelve half-siblings for Lonnie: Stacy Newman, Effie Newman Peters Sessum, Lando Newman, Floyd Basil Newman & Loyd George Newman (twins), Eula Maye Newman Ethridge, Ruby Lee Newman Varnador Bond, Lila Ray Newman Self, Austin Newman, Thomas Julian Newman, Pearlene Newman, and Irene Newman (died in infancy).

The only reference I have found regarding my Great-Grandmother is her name, hand-written, in a Family Bible - listed as my Grandfather's Mother - UNTIL RECENTLY.

My brother-in-law passed away in April 2013 and we found, in his belongings, a picture marked "Pelmon Burge - Grandma Newman's Brother". This led to the discovery of Earlie Pelman Burge, who is listed in the 1880 US Census - Precinct 3, Morris, Texas, USA, in the home of widower, L. T. Burge. Also listed in this household is a child, three years' Pelman's senior, named "Luefaleer" - listed as a male, with the word "Daughter" written next to the name, yet scratched-out. It is assumed this is my Great-Grandmother, incorrectly-listed as a male / brother to E. Pelman Burge in the census.

I still do not know the true resting place of Lou Burge Newman. I have referenced the burial in Mount Pleasant, Titus, Texas, as this is where, logically, she may have been buried. I wanted to create a memorial for her to honor her memory and show my love and appreciation for her. Many of our family members are from this area.

When her true burial place is discovered, I will update this memorial, with pride.

Rest in Peace, My Great-Grandmother.
