Ernastine Edwards Hill was born February 18, 1924 to Henry Edwards and Rebecca Barr in Stuckey, SC. Ernastine departed this life on October 25, 2013 after a brief illness at North Shore LIJ @Forrest Hills Hospital. Ernastine was born in Williamsburg County where she attended Chavis High School and upon completion of high school she migrated to New York City where she met her husband Andrew Hill. Ernestine and Andrew resided in Harlem for over 20 years and to this union they welcomed a beautiful daughter, Angela. Ernestine enjoyed the Harlem Renaissance years in Harlem with her husband, family and friends encompassing the finer things in life living it to the fullest! Finally, Ernastine, Andrew and Angie lived their American dream when they purchased their home in Corona, New York. Ernastine was always a committed and devoted wife and loving mother for many years. She dotingly cared for her husband for years until his death in 1995. She continued to live, laugh and enjoy her privileged life cooking and caring for her family. She adored her family dearly making sure she attended family functions, birthdays and just simple gatherings being the life of the party dancing, laughing and cracking jokes. Her huge presence was respected and loved whenever she entered the room. Ernastine was known for her witty outspoken personality and her feisty (usually potty) mouth. She had a big heart and whenever you came to her home she made sure you would eat a plate of food because she loved to feed you. It was mimicked by the kids on the block that she made herself the Mayor of 107th St.. She was always revered as a Diva who will truly be missed. Her last words to the family were ”I Lived My Life To the Fullest, This World don’t owe me a Thing” To know her was to love her!!!
