During New England Vampire Panic in 1793, at Jacob's blacksmith forge, in Manchester, Vermont, a public heart-burning ceremony was officiated by his brother Timothy. This was the heart of Captain Burton's dead first wife. The Vampire Demon was supposedly sucking the blood from Captain Burton's second wife and needed to be appeased.
