George M. Dewey Jr. of Effingham, died August 3, 2001, at Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro, at the age of 78.

He was born May 20, 1923, in Boston, Mass., the son of the late George M. and Maybelle (Henderson) Dewey. He had lived in the greater Boston area for many years, later moving to Framingham, Mass., where he lived until moving to Effingham in 1967 where he spent summers at the English Campground.

Mr. Dewey served as Radioman First Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II and also the Korean Conflict. He had served aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga for three years.

He was a member of the Framingham Amateur Radio Club and also served as president. He loved boating and also enjoyed fishing.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald Dewey and Russell Dewey.

Burial in the Lakeview Cemetery in Freedom.
