Dale M. Beard, 83, of rural Sycamore, died at 12:10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Mount Carmel West, Columbus.

He was born April 11, 1930, in Wyandot County, to Mont and Esther (Feighner) Beard. He married Carol M. (Miller) Beard Jan. 11, 1952, and she survives.

Also surviving are the following family members: a daughter, Sandra (John) Lofland of Sycamore; three granddaughters, Heidi Mohrman, Hana Mohrman and Halle Mohrman; two great-granddaughters, Madison Wengerd and Addison Rowe; and one brother, Arthur Beard of Bonita Springs, Fla.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonetta Ward and Leahbell Miller; four brothers, Kenneth, Leonard, Neil and Charles Beard; besides his parents.

Dale was a retired farmer, attended Sycamore High School and was a member of Sycamore United Church of Christ. He was a life member and past officer of Upper Sandusky Elks Lodge No. 83, a member of Melmore IOOF Lodge No. 174, a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 4354, Wakeman, a member of the Bucyrus Moose Lodge No. 669 and was a social member of Sycamore American Legion Post No. 250. He also belonged to the Mohawk Historical Society and the Mohawk Sixty-Plus Club. He also was a former volunteer firefighter for the Sycamore Volunteer Fire Dept. for many years.

For hobbies, Dale loved to hunt and fish and ride his Polaris Ranger around his farm, checking out his crops. He also loved to spend time watching ballgames at Sycamore American Legion ballfield, especially when his granddaughters played over the years.

A funeral for Dale will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Robin LaBolt officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Melmore IOOF Lodge will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. and Upper Sandusky Elks Lodge also will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Upper Sandusky Elks Lodge Outdoor Sign Project, Sycamore American Legion ballfield or a charity of the donor's choice in care of Walton-Moore Funeral Home, P.O. Box 350, Sycamore, OH 44882.
