Following is the obituary of William BRANCH, brother-in-law of Mrs. W. P. Evans of this city and one of the early settlers of Chase County, for whom funeral services were held at the home of Mr and Mrs George Miller, east of this city last Thursday, after which interment was made in the Miller cemetery.
William Lincoln Branch was born in Salem, Illinois, March 28, 1860. His father and mother died when he was a small boy and he then made his home with his grandmother. After her death he lived with his uncle in Minnesota a few years. At the age of 16 (1876?) he came to Rice County, Kansas.
Nov. 11, 1883 he was united in marriage to Edna F. Jones. To this union were born four children, Lois May, who died in 1903; Charles Walter, Enid, OK, Mrs. Ruth Merrill, Tillamook, OR, and Wayne D. now living in Rosebud, Mont.
In September 1893, they moved to Oklahoma where Mr. Branch had staked a claim at the opening of the Cherokee strip. In 1908 they moved to New Mexico, hoping to benefit Mrs. Branch's health. Two years later she died. in 1912 Mr. Branch and the two young children came back to Kansas and remained until 1915 when they moved to Rosebud, Montana, where he lived until his death, Jan 12, 1932. He belonged to the Christian church and also was a member of the Masonic lodge. He was a kind and faithful husband and father, and after the death of Mrs. Branch, he assumed the conscientious and loving guidance of father and mother, both. Although he has no relatives except his children, he leaves a host of friends wherever he has lived.
