Andrew Bolton Stoner joined his Heavenly Father at 8:50 A.M. on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the Heartland of Marysville, Marysville, OH.
He was born, the son of James and Clara (Bolton) Stoner, on March 19, 1926 in Ruffsdale, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, James Reid; and a sister, Anne (Stoner) Hoyle. He is survived and remembered as a loving and faithful husband by his wife, Carolyn (Momyer) Stoner. Carolyn and Andy met on a blind date, arranged by his sister, and were married on April 24, 1954. They would have celebrated their 60th Anniversary this coming April.
He will be remembered as a wise and patient Father by his four children, Keith (Donna) Stoner, John (Lisa) Stoner, Renae (Dwight) Carnes and Jim (Amy Clawson) Stoner. He leaves behind grandchildren, Aryn (Andy) Forsythe, Isaac (Catherine) Stoner, Justin (Ashley) Kempfer, Miriam Stoner, Tom Stoner, Tim Sanders, Courtney Sanders, Andrew Stoner, Micah Stoner, Jonathon Stoner, Jameson Stoner, Jacob Stoner, Jessica Stoner, Joshua (Heather) Carnes and Justin (Courtney) Carnes; great grandchildren, Johnston Davis "J.D." Forsythe, Dominic Stoner, Aidyn Stoner, Grace Carnes and Raylan Carnes; his sister, Anne's six children; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Millie Roll, Myrtle Momyer, Connie (Rich) Hernandez and Marcia (Neal) Varner. He is also remembered by special friends Andy, Debra, Jacob (Kristen) Johnson and Kathryn (Kevin) Wingfield.
Andy led a life of service – to his God, his Nation, his Family, his community of Logan County and his community of Rushsylvania, Ohio. Despite surviving tuberculosis and the loss of one lung he enlisted in The United States Army. He earned a purple heart at the Battle of the Bulge. He returned to the States and was in training for the war in the Pacific when World War II ended. After leaving the service Andy earned his Bachelor of Education at Penn State and his Master's Degree in Education from The University of Pittsburgh. Andy taught for two years at West Newton High School in West Newton, PA. He, Carolyn and his young family moved to Findlay, Ohio in 1957 where he taught at Liberty-Benton High School. He moved to Waynesfield, Ohio and taught at Waynesfield Goshen High School from 1957 to 1966. The final move for the Stoner's was to Rushsylvania, Ohio where he taught at Buckeye Local High School in Rushsylvania for two years. He finished his career with Riverside High School in DeGraff, Ohio, retiring after 35 years in education. Andy was a resident of Rushsylvania from 1966 to 2011. He was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and was a faithful follower of the United Methodist Church in Rushsylvania, where he served in nearly every capacity. He will be remembered as a driver's education teacher by many in Logan County.
He served as Mayor of Rushsylvania for twelve years and was a member of the Benjamin Logan Local School Board for four years. Receiving the Honorary State Chapter, he served as FFA Advisor, 4-H Advisor, Scoutmaster and Volunteer Fireman while living in Rushsylvania. He was a member of the Logan County Fair Board for thirty years, Logan County Historical Society, Rushsylvania American Legion and Lions Club. Although never achieving the highest rank of Scouting while a Scout, Andy encouraged his sons, Keith, John and Jim, and grandsons, Isaac Stoner and Justin Kempfer, and saw them achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Andy received the Silver Beaver Award, God and County Award and was a member of Order of Arrow and Brotherhood and received the District Award of Merit.
Calling hours will be held Friday, December 6, 2013, from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home Saturday, December 7, 2013, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. There will be a military service by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be at the Rushsylvania Cemetery at a later date.
