BENNIE D. "BEN" CUMMINGS

Bennie D. "Ben" Cummings passed from this life on November 24, 2013 at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two sisters, and one granddaughter. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Pruitt of Farmington, N. M. and Connie Pruitt of Farmington, N.M.; one sister, Mickey Baker of Cortez, Colo.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Ben was born in Yellow Jacket, Colo. to Floyd and Mary Cummings. He was one of four children. There he met Verda Moss and after a long courtship they were married on November 2, 1940 in Monticello, Utah. In 1941, he and Verda began farming near Yellow Jacket. From April 1942 to October 1945, he served his country in World War II in the South Pacific. Ben & Verda continued to farm until 1981 when they moved to Mesa, Ariz. There they managed a mobile home park for 15 years. During this time they traveled in the summer months, seeing much of the United States, Canada and Mexico. In the winter months, they managed the mobile home park and spent time with their many friends and neighbors.

In June of 2012 Ben moved to an assisted living home in San Antonio, Tex. where he was near two of his granddaughters and one grandson. In April of 2013 he moved to the Frank Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville, Tex. where he resided until his death.

Ben was a wonderful husband, father and Granddad. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Graveside service will be held at the Cortez Cemetery, on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation in the name of Bennie Cummings, can be made to Frank Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home Attention: Paula Love, Accounts Receivable 200 Veterans Dr. Floresville, Tex. 78114-2709.
