Helen Jane Foard Sweat - SAVANNAH - Helen Jane Foard Sweat, 80, of Savannah, passed away peacefully on Monday June 23, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital from complications due to a recent stroke. Helen was born on September 9, 1927, and grew up on the family farm in Pooler.
Her parents were LeClerq Parsons Foard (1888-1961) and Mary Phillips Foard (1902-1979). She was also preceded by her sister, Julia F Scott (1932-2005).
Helen was a 1939 graduate of the Pooler School and a 1945 graduate of Savannah High School and a 1953 graduate of Georgia State College for Women (now GCSU). She taught at Casimir Pulaski Elementary School from 1956 until her retirement in 1981. In 1948, Helen married the one great love of her life, Samuel Thomas Sweat (1910-1995). She loved her family, nature, gardening, and almost all animals, especially her beloved dachshunds.
Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Steven T. Sweat and Lisa Sweat; granddaughters, Lauren McMillian and Raechel LaFontain (Justin); great-grandchildren, Hunter, Nathaniel and Lillian Hayden, several nephews and cousins.
