Her parents were LeClerq Parsons Foard (1888-1961) and Mary Phillips Foard (1902-1979). She was also preceded by her sister, Julia F Scott (1932-2005).
Helen was a 1939 graduate of the Pooler School and a 1945 graduate of Savannah High School and a 1953 graduate of Georgia State College for Women (now GCSU). She taught at Casimir Pulaski Elementary School from 1956 until her retirement in 1981. In 1948, Helen married the one great love of her life, Samuel Thomas Sweat (1910-1995). She loved her family, nature, gardening, and almost all animals, especially her beloved dachshunds.
Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Steven T. Sweat and Lisa Sweat; granddaughters, Lauren McMillian and Raechel LaFontain (Justin); great-grandchildren, Hunter, Nathaniel and Lillian Hayden, several nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank all associates of St. Joseph's/Candler Hospitals for their absolute professionalism, compassion and kindness. Visitation 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday June 25, 2008 at Fairhaven Funeral Home Graveside Service 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
