South Cumberland, Dec. 8
Miss Mary Riley, daughter of Mr and Mrs Owen Riley, of this place, fell into a grate last night and was so frightfully injured that she died two hours after the accident. Miss Riley was born on Christmas Day, 1873, and since she was four years old has been an invalid. She was sitting in an invalid chair when the accident happened and fell forward upon her face. Her clothes caught fire and she was horribly burned before the members of the family heard her screams. Coroner Franklin C. Beall viewed the remains and returned a verdict to accidental death. The case was one of the saddest in this section and the family have the deep sympathy of many friends who knew the young woman and family for years. The funeral will take plane at nine o'clock Saturday morning from St Mary's Church.
