GREENSBORO- Mr. Evan Scott Bancroft Sr., 94, died Friday, February 3, 2006, in the Palliative Care Unit of Moses Cone Hospital. He had been living at Wesley Long Nursing Center in Jamestown for the past year.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at Morehead United Methodist Church, Monday, February 6, 2006 with the Rev. Dr. H. Bryant Wilbourne officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery with a graveside service with the Rev. David Howard from Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church officiating.
Mr. Bancroft was born August 6, 1911 in Greensboro, the son of Ida and Percival Bancroft. He attended Morehead United Methodist Church, but was a member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church. He was retired from Joseph Ruzicka, Inc., where he was employed for 31 years and served as the foreman of the forwarding department for 26 years.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mildred Shackelford Bancroft; daughter, Renee B. Dixon and her husband Jon of Greensboro; son, Evan Scott Bancroft Jr., and his wife Sheila of Greensboro; son-in-law Jerry L. Welker of Ocean Isle; five grandchildren, Meredith Dixon, Mark Welker, Amy Thabet, Eric Bancroft and Bryan Bancroft; four great-grandchildren, Skyler and Taylor Welker, Ethan and Savanna Bancroft.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Bancroft Welker; five sisters and two brothers.
