Capt William G Canary of the fire department died today in St Joseph hospital of a fractured skull suffered January 12 when he fell down a stairway at fire station No 24, Twenty-fourth street and Troost avenue. He fell when he slipped in hastening to respond to a fire alarm.
Captain Canary had been a member of the fire department since his appointment August 17, 1916, as a substitute fireman. He became a lieutenant in 1926 and a captain in 1928. He was injured severely August 4, 1928, in the $60,000 United Film Ad Service fire.
Although born in Wyandotte county, Captain Canary had lived in Kansas City, Mo, nearly all his life.
Besides his widow, Mrs Mamie Canary of the home, 2618 East Thirtieth street, he leaves two brothers, M J Canary, 440 West Thirty-fifth street, and P J Canary, 428 Prosepct avenue, and five sisters, Mrs H J Dansdill, 3539 Wyandotte street; Miss Helen Canary, 440 West Thirty-fifth street; Mrs Harry Barnell, Kansas City, Kansas; Mrs J T O'Leary, McAlester, Ok, and Mrs C T Lynch, St Louis.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 o'clock Monday at the home of his brother, M J Canary, 440 West Thirty-fifth street, and at 9 o'clock at the Annunciation church, Linwood and Benton boulevards.
