In Loving Memory of Juana Najera Bothe
God saw she was getting tired and a cure was not to be, so He wrapped her in his loving arms and whispered "Come with me."
Juana Najera Bothe died peacefully in the presence of her family on January 30, 2013.
She was born in Tampico Mexico on January 27, 1940 as the middle child of Guillermo Fabiani and Lucia Najera Ponce. Her parents and brothers, Guillermo and Roberto, preceded her in death.
Juana is survived by her husband Bill, their children: Cindy Lou, Mary Ann and Glen Kirk. Juana was blessed with five grandchildren: Cindy Lou's children: Ernie and Crystal Guerrero; Mary Ann and her husband Ian's children: Ryan and Shannon O'Leary; and Glen and Rochelle's child Kristen. Juana's great grandson is Kris and Kristen's son, Aaron Boberts.
Growing up in Tampico, Juana was an avid student and received her degree from the Academia Commercial in Tampico.
In 1958, while working part time as the head cashier for "National de Drogas" in Tampico, she met her future husband, Bill, who worked for Canadian Shell Oil in Venezuela, traveling at times from Caracas to Tampico. Their courtship grew despite the distance and separation; they were married May 10, 1959. Later that year they immigrated to the United States.
While living in San Diego and working for Conic/Teledyne Ryan Corporation, Juana continued her education and received precision assembly certification for military and NASA electronics research and development projects. Juana was honored by being chosen to assemble the backpacks for Apollo Astronauts, Walter Shirra, Donn Eisele and Walter Cunningham. For her precise and conscientious work she received many certificates and awards.
After relocating to Walnut Creek in 1968 she worked for the next 12 years for Varian Aerograph in research and development as a planner and Inspector for quality control.
In 1983 she was hired by Bio Rad to create a new quality control department and for the next 25 years she was involved in the many challenges of creating procedure and support for new products and services. Juana was highly respected for her devotion, honesty, hard work and unwavering friendship by her co-workers, management and owners alike.
In 1987 she completed four years of academic and ministry studies with her husband Bill who was ordained a permanent deacon for the Catholic Diocese of Oakland.
Juana was always very elegant, impeccably dressed and dignified. Some described her as "regal." She was proud of her family and culture; declaring "I am Mexican" when ask about her ethnicity. However, her father's Italian ancestry, the Fabiani side, was evidenced in her personality. Things were either black or white. She was not afraid to express her views. Her excellent cooking, her loving generosity and her warm hospitality made her a loyal friend. Throughout her life Juana never forgot her ties and responsibilities to her extended Mexican family. She enjoyed foreign travels, cruises, fine dining and visiting her hometown Tampico.
We surely miss this elegant, caring lady: a wife, a mother, a nana, a friend and devoted Catholic.
