Victor "Vic" Wayne Roberts, 75, of Taylorville died at 6:01 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, in his home.
He was born November 19, 1932, in Eldorado, the son of Obe and Eva Francis Roberts. He married Hillary Norris, and they later divorced. He married Carolyn Hebert on July 1, 1985, in Taylorville Christian Church. He was a retired coal miner and political activist. He was active with the Green Party and was a candidate in the November 8 Election for Illinois 19th Congressional District. He was a member of UMWA. He was an avid gardener. He served in the United States Air Force.
Surviving are his wife; daughter, Vicki (husband Jim) DuMontelle of St. Charles, MO; step-daughters: Marla (husband Todd) Washburn of Blue Mound and Barbara (husband Leigh) Buhl of Dawson; sons: Brent W. (friend Elaine) Roberts of San Antonio, FL, Mark (wife Trish) Roberts of Baytown, TX, David (wife Jane) of Chatham and Larry C. (wife Mary) Hebert of Springfield; grandchildren: Eric Roberts, Russell Roberts, Lydia Roberts, Andrew Roberts, Elaine Roberts, Tim Roberts, Aaron Roberts, Zackery Roberts, Becca Roberts, Bianca Roberts, Jeremy Roberts, Christopher Roberts, Robbie DuMontelle, Bethany DuMontelle, Logan and Allison Washburn, Jessica Hebert, Breann, Miranda and Bryan Woods; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: "Buck" Roberts, R. D. Roberts, Obe Jr. Roberts, Clarence Roberts and Gene Roberts; sisters: Carmella Roberts and Roena Roberts; and granddaughter, Angela Roberts.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10, in Sutton Memorial Home, with John Hanlon officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10, in the funeral home.
