He was born in Bowling Green on Nov. 23, 1938. He was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church. He was a longtime resident of Elizabethtown and a 1957 graduate of Elizabethtown High School. He was a three-year letterman in football and played football for Coaches Jim Pickens and Bill Hogg.
At age 12, he began working alongside his father, Robert S. Holman, in a family owned welding business. He opened his own welding and machine shop upon completing his commitment of service in the U.S. Army Reserve. He later went on to become a partner in the Kentucky Galvanizing Company. Upon leaving the Kentucky Galvanizing Company, he operated a home-based welding business for several years.
He was well-known for wearing bib overalls and was seldom seen without one of his polka-dotted welding caps.
After heart bypass surgery in the spring of 2008, he became a regular at the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Hardin Memorial Hospital, where he made several close friends. He never met a stranger and was always ready to tell a story and share a laugh with friends and strangers alike. He loved to fish and was especially fond of fishing for crappies. He also enjoyed showing his tomato plants to visitors each summer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert S. and Ellen Holman; and an infant brother, Gary Holman.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lois Routt Holman; a twin sister, June (Don) Bishop; two sons, Mike (Donna) Holman, and James (Laura) Holman; a daughter, Carol (Richard) Butler; one grandson, Michael James Robert Holman; and three granddaughters, Hannah Holman, Hallie Holman and Ginny Dean Butler.
