Being born during the Great Depression of the early 1930s, working for the material things in life was essential and was instilled in the young people. Duane, all through the years since age 6, lived by those principals under physical handicap of one leg being shorter, but proved he could be a success. Most of the years he worked a full-time job and farmed, row-cropping and raising hogs on the farms he and his wife owned. He worked in Kansas and Oklahoma at missile sites being built before working for the U.S. Government in Kansas City and at Whiteman Air Force Base, where he retired in October 1990 with 33 years of federal civil service time. Duane was educated in rural one-room schools and graduated from Norris High School, the Class of 1953, which was the last year of high school at Norris. He successfully completed military training classes in the various career fields in which he was assigned. Both grandparent families were interested in music which made times cheerful and happy and was carried onto grandchildren. Music was a big social part in Duane's life which is where he met his wife, Lois. They were well matched, both liked gardening, flowers, traveling and camping. Together, they worked hard to provide for their family. Duane was of quiet nature and was a wonderful brother. He will be sadly missed. He will always be remembered by his family and friends for all of his caring acts of kindness and expressions of love. His grandson, Matthew, who has always came to visit on weekends and at every available opportunity, found a special place in his grandpa's heart. Matthew, an exceptional grandchild, returned his heartfelt love and personal sacrifice by caring for grandpa in the home since December 2012. He became a member of the Quarles Baptist Church as a young boy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.
