John Thomas "Coonie" Marlar, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013. Arrangements will be announced by Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia.

John Thomas "Coonie" Marlar, age 79 of Town Creek, died Sunday, December 1, 2013. His family will receive friends Tuesday, 1-2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 in Glendale cemetery with Eddie Osborn officiating.
Mr. Marlar was retired from Reynolds Metals and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Edna Beaver Marlar; his brothers, Carl and David Marlar and his sister, Eloise Brackin. He enjoyed friends, fishing and hunting; especially with his twin granddaughters, Chelsie and Kristy Marlar.
Survivors include his wife of sixty one years, Shelba Marlar; son, Johnny Marlar; sister, Brenda Burden; four brothers, Bobby, Russell, Jesse, Donald and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Blake Burden, Randy Bracken, Joe Bracken, Don Berry, Todd Jemenez, Kenny Joe Waldrep, Philip Berry and Jimmy Lou Allen.
Honorary pallbearers are Ralph Grissom, Dana Posey and Johnny Patterson.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society
