Mrs. GERTRUDE LENORE RUDY, widow of Harry Robert Rudy, died last evening at her home, 813 The Terrace, after a long illness, aged 81 years. Born in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John U. and Elizabeth (Derne) Adams.
She was actively identified with the cultural and civic life of the community for many years. After the death of her husband she continued to operate Rudy's Pharmacy, the drug business of her late husband until several weeks ago.
She was a well known local artist, both for her portraits and still life and also for her unusual talent for restoring heirlooms. Her better known portraits are those of Dr. James Kelly, executive secretary of the American Pharmacculical Asssociation and Dr. Robert Swain, secfretary of the Maryland Pharmaccutical Association and editor of "Drug Topics."
An active member of the Hagerstown Garden Club, she was known for creating artistic flower arrangements and held a certificate for flower judging and was often in demand as a frlower show judge. She was regent of the Conococheague Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and served on the board of directors and was secretary for thirty years of the Hagerstown Day Nursery. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was given recognition recently as a fifty year member.
Possessed with a kindly nature and pleasant personality, she was one of Washington County's most beloved citizen.
Her late husband achieved great distinction in the pharmacentical world and was president of the Maryland Pharmacuetical Association. He also played an important role in the development of Hagerstown's park system.
Surviving are: son, Harry Robert Rudy, Jr., Philadelphia; sister, Miss Sarah I. Adams, this city.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 at her home, 813 The Terrace; interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.
