Funeral services for Harry R. Rudy, prominent business man and civic leader, will be held at his late home on The Terrace, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Rudy died at 9:15 o'clock Sunday morning at his home, 813 The Terrace. Death was due to heart trouble and followed an illness of several months. He was 67 years old. Mr. Ruby had been in bad health for several months and on Friday, December 27, his condition became critical.
Long identified with the business and civic life of the community, Mr. Rudy was held in the highest esteem. Since 1904 he had conducted a drug store in the Hotel Hamilton building. He had been a member of the State Board of Pharmacy since 1930 and twice served as president. He was a member and past president of the mary Pharmaceutical Association.
Mr. Rudy had been interested during his entire lfie in all that pertained to the welfare and progress of the city. He served as president of the Park Board from the time of organization. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Presbyterian Church and for a number of years served as treasuer of the church. He was treasuer of the Museum of Fine Arts and had served as a member of the Board of Education. He was also a member of the Alsatia Club.
A native son of Maryland, Mr. Rudy was born at Burkittsville, Frederick county, on July 19, 1873. His father, Aaron W. Rudy, was born in Washington county in 1848.
The youthful days of Mr. Rudy were largely devoted to the acquirement of an education in the public and private schools of Frederick and Washington counties. He started in business with the drug firm of D.C. Aughinbaugh and Son, and at the same time pursued a course of study at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, from which he graduated with high honors in 1896. He was one of two in the class of over 300 to receive the grade of "distinguished" the highest rating given by the college.
He also won the John M. Maisch Gold Medal for the best historical knowledge of drugs, and honorable mention in connection with the William B. Webb memorial prize and the Joseph P. Remington Operative Pharmacy prize. With the completion of his collegiate work, Mr. Rudy entered into partnership with H. Lionel Meredith in 1904 and they purchased the drug store in the Hamilton Hotel building. After a few years Mr. Rudy acquired the interest of his partner in the business, which he had since conducted independently until the time of death, winning substantial success as the years had circles was attested by the fact gone by.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and served in various official capacities. In politics he was a stalwart Republican.
He was married on April 14, 1904, to Miss Gertrude Adams, daughter of the late John U. and Elizabeth Adams. Mrs. Rudy and a son, Robert, survive.
