Mary Pilar was married to Josef Sidlo in 1873 and together they had nine children. In April 1874, Josef and his young bride decided to come to America. They settled in New York where their first child, Mary, was born. Later they moved to Nebraska to live with Mrs. Sidlo's aunt Mrs. Drazol. Then they homesteaded in Red Cloud.
