Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. After starring in basketball for the Oklahoma University men's basketball team as a Guard from 1948 to 1950, he was selected as a member of the United States Men's Olympic Basketball team that participated in the 1952 Summer Olympic Games in Helsinki, Finland. There he helped the United States win the Gold Medal, defeating the teams from Hungary, Uruguay, Czechoslovakia, Chile, Brazil, and finally the Soviet Union, whom they defeated in the Gold Medal game with a score of 36 to 25. From 1950 to 1954 he played for the Amateur Athletic Union's Phillips 66ers basketball team. During World War II he served in the United States Army.
