HIGHLY-REGARDED MINSTER WOMAN CLAIMED IN HOME

Death claimed one of Minster's oldest women when Mrs. Caroline Fortman Feldman, aged 84 years and four months, succumbed in the family home in Minster after a protracted illness of a complication of diseases.

Mrs. Feldman, a lifelong and respected resident of Minster, had been in failing health for four years, and on several occasions in recent months was seriously ill. She was bedfast for three weeks prior to her death, which occurred at 11 p.m. Monday.

Born on South Main street not far from the present family home, on Dec 30, 1858, she was a daughter of Clemens and Gertrude (Renker) Fortman. She was married on Feb 9, 1887 to Bernard Feldman and the couple spent their entire married life in the same residence.

In 1889, Mr. Feldman entered the furniture and undertaking business in partnership with the late Joseph Knostman. In 1898, he sold his interest to the late N.J. Hogenkamp who in turn sold his holdings in the furniture store to Mr. Knostman.

After his retirement from the business, Mr. Feldman followed the trade of carpenter and cabinet maker until the time of his retirement some years ago. He preceded his wife in death June 23, 1941 at the age of 81. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1937.

Left to mourn the death of a kind and devoted mother are the following-named four children: Anthony Feldman of Dayton; Miss Rose Feldman at home; Clemens Feldman of Minster; and Mrs. Josephine Boyce of Ft. Wayne, Ind. There are six grandchildren. Three sons, Louis, William and Ferd Feldman, preceded their parents in death.

A sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Horstman of Minster, the last of her family, survives Mrs. Feldman. Another sister, Mrs. Mary Haverbeck, is dead.

A lifelong and faithful Catholic, Mrs. Feldman received the last sacraments of her church prior to the end. She was a member of the St. Monica Ladies' sodality of the St. Augustine church.

Funeral services have been arranged for 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Augustine's church, the Rev. Robert Wuest to officiate during the requiem high mass. Burial will follow in the family plot in the church cemetery.
