James Higdon dies today
James Shelby Higdon, 55, Shelbyville route four, died 1:45 a.m. today in Bartholomew county hospital.
Born in Kentucky Jan. 23, 1917, to Guy and Nellie (Simms) Higdon, he married the former Vera Bradley Aug. 2, 1938. She survives.
Also surviving are six children, Larry Higdon of Needham route one; Mrs. Charlene Cassidy, Edinburg route two; Mrs Imogene Rogers, New Whiteland; Mrs. Jeanette Freeman, Columbus route six; Pamela Higdon, Shelbyville route four; and Mrs. Marian Kirby, Mt. Vernon, Kentucky.
Other survivors include 11 grandchildren, two sisters, Rhea Higdon, Edinburg route one, and Linnie Higdon, Franklin route two; and four brothers, Marshall and William, both of Shelbyville, Daymon of Waldron and Lewis of Kentucky.
Higdon was a maintenance worker at St. Columbia Catholic school in Columbus and was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic church in Edinburg.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Columbia Catholic church in Columbus, with Father Patrick Gleason of that church officiating.
Rosary services will be said 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Vandiver-Parsley South Edinburg Chapel Funeral Home. Friends may call there after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Edinburg.
