Twins Wilson and Woodrow Bain McKnight were born to Byron "Gus" Augustus McKnight and his wife, Viola Lee Suddath, while their father was serving as a Methodist minister in (Quinlan) Woodward, OK. The twins had 7 older siblings, Viola "Frances" (Wherry), William "Milton", Augustus "Gus" H, Paul James, Gladys Elizabeth (Galloway), Thomas Eugene and John B McKnight. They had 2 younger siblings, Virginia Lee (Moudy) and Joseph Warren McKnight.

In 1940, he was a member of the Paris, Logan County, Arkansas Civilian Conservation Corp.

Along with 3 of his brothers, Thomas E (KIA in the Phillipines), Woodrow, and Joseph, he served in the military in World War II. US Army Sergeant: Wilson McKnight of Belleville, Arkansas is listed as a Sergeant in the "A" Battery Personnel list of the 90th Infantry Division attached to the 343rd Field Artillery Battalion from D-Day, June 6, 1944, to VE-Day, May 8, 1945. The 90th Infantry Division was activated 25 March 1942, shipped out to Europe on 23rd March 1944 and arrived in England on 5 April 1944. Some elements of the 90th saw action on 6 June 1944, D-Day, Utah Beach, Normandy, France. The rest of the Division entered combat 10 June.

In the 1950s he lived in Lonoke, Arkansas.
