Laura Elizabeth Horton, 85 years old of Antioch, IL passed away Friday, November 29, 2013 at Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center, Lindenhurst, IL.
She was born April 24, 1928 in Long Lake, IL the daughter of the late Earl and Laura (Corris) Pedley. Laura attended Grant Hugh School, graduating as Valedictorian in 1946 and went on to Illinois State University, graduating in 1950. Shortly after graduating college she moved to Antioch where she taught at Antioch Lower Grade School from 1950-1957. She then stayed at home for several years to raise her children and in 1969 she went back to teaching until her retirement from District 34 in the spring of 1986. On July 30, 1955 she married Robert Earl Horton in Long Lake and he preceded her in death March 12, 2012. Laura cherished her grandchildren, and enjoyed music, playing piano, reading, and writing.
Survivors include her children, John (Deborah) and David (Diana), both of Antioch; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Jamie, Dana, Greg, and Jeff; and her brother, Jon C. (Nancy) Pedley of Ingleside, IL. In addition to her parents and husband, Laura was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Earl Pedley.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) with Rev. Mark Albrecht, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Antioch. Visitation will be from 4-8PM Wednesday at the funeral home. INFO 847-395-4000.
