John Lee Berkley, Jr., 81, a resident of Parkville, MO passed away peacefully in his home with his loving wife at his side. John was born December 5, 1931 to John Lee and Anna Bernice (Hughes) Berkley, Sr. in Fayette, MO.

Raised by his grandparents on the family farm with his brother Billy, he liked to tell the story of how they rode a horse together to a one-room schoolhouse. John was a dedicated family man, who deeply cherished his wife, son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, and all his much loved nieces and nephews. An avid photographer of his family, he faithfully attended every little-league sporting event either coaching or videotaping. A calm, constant, steady presence ~he was loved and admired by all who knew him for his wit and heart. John was always ready to help anyone, anywhere and he always made room for one more, young or old, in his home and at his table. They don't make them like John Lee Berkley anymore, he will be greatly missed.

He was a loyal employee for Gordon Johnson/Baader Linco Co. with over 50 years of dedicated service to his work family. He was united in marriage with June "Sally" Ann Scanlan and they had a son and daughter together. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Missouri National Guard for six years.

John was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian Lee Berkley and a brother, William "Billy" Hughes Berkley. He is survived by his wife, Sally Berkley of the home; a daughter, Lily Joleen Berkley of Parkville, MO; his only grandson and the "apple of his eye," Quinn Rivers Bieberly; siblings, Ernie Floyd Walker (Brenda); Peggie Ruth Skinner (Ernie); Bettie Jane "Sherry" Pankey (Walt); Ivan Ray Berkley (Anna May); Dean Faye Berkley (Andi); Don Elza Berkley; a sister-in-law, Sarah Berkley; an aunt, Roxene McNeill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 2, 2013 at Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville, MO. The funeral service will immediately follow at 7 p.m. at the chapel.
