John Kohlmiller Dies At Age 85

Funeral rites Wednesday afternoon

John Kohlmiller, 85, of 200 W. Delmar, died Saturday at 8:30 PM in Alton Memorial Hospital several hours after he had been moved there from his home. He had been in failing health for a year and during that time had been a patient at several different times in the hospital.

He was born March 17, 1862, in Ohio, but moved with his mother to Jersey County, as a child, following the death of his father. He had farmed in Jersey County until 1907, when he retired and moved to Alton. He had never married. After coming to Alton, he had been caretaker of lawns in the north side.

Surviving are a brother, Fred Kohlmiller, East St. Louis, and a sister, Mrs. Katie Vahle, Alton, 10 nieces and 12 nephews.

Funeral rites will be conducted Wednesday at 2 PM in Gent funeral home by the Rev. O. W. Heggemeier, pastor of Evangelical and Reformed Church. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 PM Tuesday.

Funeral services for Jacob Kohlmiller, 84, of 200 W. Delmar, were conducted at 2 PM today in Gent Funeral Home by the Rev. O.W. Heggemeier, Pastor of Evangelical and Reformed Church. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park.

Mrs. H. W. Pelot, with Mrs. Clarice Rutledge Ferguson as accompanist, singing 2 hymns. Pallbearers were County Auditor James Callahan, George Bower, Gus Tibbitt, George Winger, Ollie Berner, and Andrew Trager.
