born about 1816 - 1820 (calcuated, based on estimated age at death and various transcripts of Vermont birth, death, and census records)

On January 5, 1864, Lewis enlisted to serve during the Civil War. He mustered in the next day as a Private in the 1st Large Artillery Battery. He died just a few weeks later.

In "Peacham, the Story of a Vermont Hill Town" (Peacham Historical Assoc., 1948 ) author Ernest Ludlow Bogart states that Lewis is one of several volunteers from Peacham who are not included in the "Revised Roster".

The memorial in Peacham Corner Cemetery is a cenotaph. Lewis is buried in Chalmette National Cemetery. Please see that memorial for family links.
