Caroline was a daughter of Hugh McGehee and his wife Sarah S. White McGehee. Hugh moved to Mississippi after the death of his wife in Ogelthorpe County, Georgia and settled near Como, Panola County, Mississippi. Caroline's daughter, Mary Clark Starks, married Dr. A.A. Young. They were the parents of famous author, Stark Young. When Mary died in 1890, Stark and Julia Young moved to Como and lived with their great uncle, Hugh McGehee, Jr. In at least one of his books, Young mentions his uncle Hugh (see "So red the Rose" and " The Pavillion").
