He loved coastal SC and returned permanently in 2003, where he pursued enthusiastically his wide range of interests, including history, geography, travel, and cultural events. Also, he actively supported the Pawleys Island community and thoroughly enjoyed, protected, and enhanced its environment.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Anne Pollard Withers; son Robert Walter Withers, Jr. of Denver; daughter Sara Withers Franco, son-in-law Joseph James Franco, grandson Joshua and granddaughter Julia of Falls Church, VA; sister Margaret Withers Allen and brother-in-law J. William Allen, nieces Kathleen Allen Hamrick and Christine Elizabeth Allen.
A memorial service is planned for 3 PM on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church, 113 Baskerville Drive (corner of U.S. 17), Pawleys Island.
Bob will be buried in the Withers family plot in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.
