Clarence Kelly, Gardner, Dies Here at Age 87

Clarence Kelly, 87, a Kansas farmer who moved to Albuquerque in 1929 and became an organic gardener here, died Tuesday after a long illness.

A member of the Organic Garden Club, Kelly lived at 4600 Rincon NW, where he grew vegetables An amateur artist, he also painted horses and outdoor scenes.

Kelly was an avid participant in horseshoe pitching and enjoyed the sport until he became ill two years ago.

He was born in Kansas, farmed at Syracuse, Neb. and operated grocery stores in Lincoln, Neb. before moving to Albuquerque.

Survivors include his widow, Olive H. Kelly, of the family home; two sons Julian C. Kelly of Albuquerque and Roland R. Kelly of El Paso; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He was a member of the First Unitarian Church where memorial services at 7 p.m. Saturday.
