Lawrence R. Bishop, age 90, of Onaway, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013, at Medilodge of Hillman. The son of Charles and Ethel (Beebe) Bishop, Lawrence was born in Cheboygan on August 3, 1923.

He married Evelyn M. Barnby on November 8, 1946 in Saginaw. She precedes him in death.

Lawrence worked for many years as a machinist at Detroit Tap and Tool in Cheboygan. He also worked for Onaway Stone.

He was a long time member of the Tower Baptist Church.

Lawrence's family was the most important thing to him. He enjoyed planting a large garden every year and sharing the vegetables he grew within the community.

He trained many horses, loved to feed and watch any kind of wildlife and also enjoyed talk radio.

Lawrence served his country in the United States Army during World War II in Germany and was a Bronze Star recipient. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5857 in Onaway.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Chagnon Funeral Home on Monday, December 2, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at 1:00 pm at the Chagnon Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Kirby officiating followed by Military Honors by the VFW Post 5857.

Lawrence's final resting place will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tower.
