"Ex-Publisher Succumbs to Long Illness / Charles J. Jaegle Formerly Owned Catholic Observer
Charles J. Jaegle, 76, who was in the publishing business in Pittsburgh for 40 years, died yesterday afternoon in Mercy Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Jaegle was owner and managing editor of the Catholic Observer when he retired in 1945. He formerly also had published the Mirror and the National Pictorial here.
Lifelong District Resident
Mr. Jaegle's residence was at 6427 Darlington Road and he had been a lifelong resident of the Pittsburgh district. His wife was the former Marie Tello Phillips, a writer, who has published a number of books of poetry.
Besides his wife, who spells her married name Yeagle, Mr. Jaegle is survived by a brother, Lawrence M. Jaegle; four sisters, the Misses Josephine and Rose Jaegle, Mrs. Isabelle Leasure and Mrs. Othelia E. Barto..."
