On November 26, 2013 at his home in Alexandria, VA. A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he met his wife while stationed at Fort Dix, NJ. Upon discharge, he went to work for Alexandria Furniture before beginning his career with Virginia Electric Power Company. While there, he also worked part-time for Crump's Esso Station. Robert was a longtime member of Del Ray United Methodist Church where he was an usher, former president of the Methodist Men, and lifelong member of the Alexandria-Washington Lodge #22. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Eva R. Baber. He is survived by his children, Audrey Baber, Sharon Dove, and Robert B. Baber, Jr. Family and friends may gather on Sunday, December 1, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA 22302. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Del Ray United Methodist Church, 100 E. Windsor Ave., Alexandria, VA 22301 with interment to follow at Mount Comfort Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association .
